Dogfood Conference 2016 Wrap-up and Slides

Dogfood2015

I really enjoyed my time at the Dogfood Conference in Columbus yesterday. The attendees were great and both of my talks were well received. I want to express my thanks to the conference organizers and the attendees for the wonderful conference. I really enjoyed myself this year and I hope to be invited back to speak again next year.

I had lots of attendees at both sessions who asked for the slides so I’ve uploaded them here.  I’ve also sent them to the conference organizers.  If you have any follow-up questions please email me at paul.stork@bluechip-llc.com.  You can download a PDF of the slides from each talk using the links below:

SharePoint 2013 “Apps” 101: A Basic Introduction

“Boards” Added to Delve and Office Graph

DelveDelve is a new feature of Office 365 that Microsoft has been rolling out to First Release customers since late October.  Its a new search capability that proactively gathers content that may be of interest to you and presents in on “Cards” that provide additional information about the content.  Office Graph is a machine learning engine that is used to analyze the interactions that you have with content and other people in your normal workday.  Your actions are combined with the public and private actions of other people to surface trending content that the analysis engine thinks you may be interested in.  There’s also a search feature so you can impose the relevance ratings reflected by this analysis to regular search queries that you would perform.  All of this is designed to proactively surface content from wherever it may be stored that will be of interest to you Now.

Introduction of Boards

Delve is still evolving to include more actions, content sources, and features. Today Microsoft released a new feature for Delve called Boards.  Boards makes it possible to Tag individual Delve Cards and then surface that collection of Cards as a “Board”.  You can follow Boards to make them easy to retrieve or search for Boards defined by other users.  You can read all about it in Microsoft’s announcement here.

If you would like to learn more about Delve sign up for the Louisville SharePoint User Group Virtual event tomorrow evening at 6:00PM.  I’ll be presenting a session for them on an Intro to Delve and Office Graph.  You can sign up for the session here:

Speaking at the Columbus Buckeye SPUG

BuckeyeSPUG_TranspI will be speaking at the Columbus Buckeye SharePoint Users Group on Thursday, January 16th. The meeting will start at 5:30pm. My topic will be "Share, Follow, and Sync: How SharePoint 2013 uses Personal MySites for Social functionality”. Here’s a brief description of the talk:

Prior to SharePoint 2013 many organizations built a MySite Host but never implemented personal MySite storage. This was a very viable strategy in 2010. But with the introduction of the Social features in SharePoint 2013 things have changed. In this talk we’ll review all the new "Social" features in SharePoint 2013 that depend on personal MySites. We’ll also look at how to control and manage personal MySites in your organization and discuss how future integration with Yammer may change this requirement.
